What is licorice root DGL?
Tranont Health’s [Life] Enzyme Blend contains a form of licorice root called DGL. What is this and what is the difference between it and regular licorice root?
DGL is licorice root with the compound glycyrrhizin removed.
Glycyrrhizin is one of the main compounds of licorice that gives it its sweet flavor. People with high blood pressure or low potassium levels should avoid glycyrrhizin as it can aggravate these conditions.
Licorice root DGL, although not very sweet, is a safer form of licorice to take long-term and is recommended for gastrointestinal symptoms. DGL should contain no more than 2 percent glycyrrhizin.
